Kada is a Georgian sweet pie, which is often made for religious festivities.


  • 1 kg Wheat flour
  • 400 ml Milk, warm
  • 100 ml Water, warm
  • 3 Egg yolks
  • 100 g Butter, melted
  • 30 ml Sunflower oil
  • 1 tbsp Dry east
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 250 g Butter or ghee, for filling
  • 400 g Wheat flour, for filling
  • 400 g Sugar, for filling
  • 2 Egg yolks, for glaze
  • 1 tsp Vanilla powder, for filling
  • 0.5 g Salt, for filling


  1. In a large bowl stir the yeast, warm milk and water. Add egg yolks, salt, melted butter and sifted flour. Knead the dough. Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Let stand until doubled in size, about 1 hour in a warm place.

  2. To make the filling, in a saucepan melt butter or ghee, add flour and mix well. Add sugar, vanilla powder and salt. Stir constantly to combine all ingredients.

  3. Divide the dough into balls, each weighing 200 g. Shape each ball into a circle, place the filling in the center and fold the edges well. Turn over and flatten with a rolling pin. In a separate bowl beat egg yolks. Brush the egg wash onto the surface of each pie before baking. Preheat the oven on 220 C°. Bake pies about 20-25 minutes, until golden.
